many Spirits here
this ,might be hard to envision...but it is at a RIM, an Edge....the curving diagonal. it plummets down, hundreds of feet and as you stand here you can see hundreds of miles to the West
i learned what the term "hike" means. A hike. A hike means you start out and you just GO. at a steady clip. Keep going at that steady clip until you reach the destination. You rest a short time and then you Return at that same steady clip. No dawdling. MOVING. you MOVE. Hike. We drove in two vehicles, i guess 16 of us over and across the freeway to the East side of the Refuge. They plan these public hikes in order to access the land....to walk it, know what is happening there. There are MILES of this Refuge and so so few to maintain it. Funding.
if i stood and stretched my arms out and turned a full circle, i could spend months in that much space
studying what is. Studying this Earth, She, so so Fine and Elegant, formed from TIME
but it was a Hike and we set out and we WENT and kept GOING.
i arrived back home way later than i'd imagined and Travis had been here and waited and just had his key in his ignition. Ahh. Timing. So he and i immediately set to work to make the cut in shelter for Gideon when we move him, the one from pallets and then we moved over to where they are now where Jack Flash has almost worn through the roof of the shelter there and reinforced that, added an East wall. Travis left, having work to finish elsewhere and i put bedding straw in the new shelter for Gideon. Afixed the tarp there, weighted it down. Hauled the excess bedding straw into the Albatros because tonight and tomorrow there is forcast SLEET, RAIN, SNOW SLEET. I changed the Buck waters and began hauling in Wood for the next two days. I sat on the bottom step of the ROOM porch and broke up twigs for kindling, filling the copper dye pot with these. Hauled wood. Cooked and fed self and i am so so so tired. Have had a day like so many Before me have had. Days of KEEPING. KEEPING things. of JUST GOING. Just Going and Keeping.
How Grateful i am. Solstice. I made it. Tomorrow, we TURN to the Light.
